Okay, so we know we'd be sunk without our laptops and cell phones. But what about the car? Cars have batteries too. Perhaps you ride a Harley Davidson - not without a motorcycle battery! It's interesting to think where we'd be if the afore-mentioned lithium stock zapping episode took place. We know that our forefathers coped without batteries but could we?
I recently submitted an article to Smartphone and Pocket PC magazine on some of the tools I recommend for mobile productivity. All power tool batteries degrade over time and lithium ion batteries degrade more rapidly over periods of un-use. Accordingly, use them often and when you're not in the trenches of a project, try to use them at least once each month.
I don't consider the Craftsman Multi-tool as a heavy-duty tool. In fact the tool will get hot around the Lithium battery stocks area if you use it on too large a task (3 to 4 batteries in a row.) It is just a great tool for those special small to medium jobs around the house that I have all the time. It is a great "around the house" tool. If you need a tool like this to work for you all day long or have a large project like scraping an entire house before painting you really should buy a heavier tool like the Fein Multi-Master.
Frequent charging is good for lithium ion batteries. Accordingly, feel free to charge them even when they are only slightly depleted. You may also "top-off" your batteries by plopping them onto (or turning on) the charger for a few minutes each month. Though you don't need to store li-ion batteries fully charged, giving them a little juice while dormant can keep them feeling good and strong.
On the other hand, if you are a camera enthusiast and you want to have the latest digital camera model, then you better wait for the release of Canon PowerShot A3300 IS.
